Cropped Sweater Vest

I promise I'm not ignoring you guys. I've been super busy with projects that NEED to get done so that's why I've been off in la la land and haven't been doing the tutorials. So I'm going to do a really fast one right now b ecause its 1 a.m. and I feel I owe you all.

Ok so here is today's project.

So I started with this old 1990s red hooded sweater with a hood. Pretty Buffy Summers but I want to go for that Faith look instead.

The first thing that needed to be done was to remove the zipper. The zipper gave me a pre-hem along the front so I didn't have to worry about hemming the center. If you are using a regular sweater you will need to cut open the middle of your sweater and hem it.

I then removed the sleeves and using my sewing machine, I set the stich to a zig-zag stich with a very low stitch length of 1. I then sewed around the sleeve holes, stretching the fabric as I went to give it a finished edge.

Next I determined how short I wanted my vest to be and using a straight edge cut said line.

I stiched along this edge using the same process as before.

And that was it, one knitted vest without me ever having to knit a stitch. Pretty easy huh?

T-Shirt Vest Tutorial

I decided that making one of those trendy vests that you see everywhere going for like $20 is an easy make so I made one with a t-shirt I had laying around. I totally plan on making an edged out version of this vest later when I get the materials to do so. What's super awesome about this vest is it can be a sew or no-sew vest and there are millions of different ways to make it unique.

Every guy has tons of these under-shirts laying around, so steal one from your boyfriend/dad/brother whomever, they won't notice and make this cute vest!

Begin with a men's L or XL t-shirt of your choice.

Cut the sleeves off of your shirt. If you are going to be doing the sewing part of this project keep your sleeves for later.

Cut the excess hang off of your shirt.

Cut the back of your shirt into a racer back.

Remove the collar of your t-shirt. If your t-shirt isn't a v-neck like mine is cut yours into a v-neck.

Cut your shirt down the center.

This is probably the most complicated part of this project. Start at the bottom of the front of your vest were you cut in half. Cut above the hem of your shirt and remove the hem cutting your vest in a curve so that it is shorter in the back than it is in the front.

If you are not sewing this project then you are so done and can rock your shirt as is. But if you want to jazz your vest up then continue below.

(optional) Take your sleeves from before and get ready to cut them into pockets. I basically just folded mine in half and cut them into the desired shape. It's important for you to keep the hem in-tact though.

This is the shape I went with for mine. You can do whatever shape you like.

Carefully cut two little slits through the top layer of your hem where the little lines are.

Using a safety pin run ribbon through the ends of your pocket hem and out the little center slits.

Pin your pockets to your vest being sure to turn the edges under so that you have a clean line. Sew your pockets on.

Tighten and tie your ribbons. Your pockets should look something like this.

(optional) To add a little edge to your vest, sew a zipper down the center back.

(optional) I chose to sew lace down the back of mine.

Oh My Goth!

Love love love this piece! It is so sexy it's not even funny.

I'm not normally a vest girl- and lord knows you wouldn't see many goth sporting a vest but this is so amazing I just fell for it.

This dress is a total Etsy steal, but with that hood you couldn't go wrong.

Another amazing Etsy dress.

I am in so much lust for this dress you can probably hear me panting over it through your computer screen.

After seeing this photo, I fully believe that every little goth girl should walk around with curlers in her hair.

The model in these photos is about as gothic as a cheerleader but the clothes speak for themselves.

Heavy Red Fashions

You can pick up a sequins tank top at just about every store now-adays but only Heavy Red has managed to make one "goth"

Every little goth girl needs something like this in her closet.

I am so in love with this top that I will not rest until I have one, even if I must make it myself, which is the more likely scenario.

Something about the zippers on the thighs of these leggings facinate me.
