Cat Ears Headband Tutorial!

I love these! I was totally inspired by this photo of Gwen Stefani!

What you'll need for this project:

Scissors
Straight pins
Stretch fabric
1 pipe cleaner
Sewing machine
Zipper foot
Tape measure

Start by measuring around your head and cutting a piece of your stretch fabric the length of your head by however wide you want your headband to be x2.

Cut out your cat ears as well.

Turn your ears right sides together and sew- then turn right sides back out.

Bend your pipe cleaner and fit it into your ear.

Cut off the excess pipe cleaner. Repeat for second ear.

Using your zipper foot, sew as close as you can around your pipe cleaner to hold in place.

Mark where you want your cat ears. Make sure they are puuurrrrfectly even with each other.

Cut slits where you marked your ear holes to be. Do this with great caution- you don't want uneven ears!

Pin your cat ears in place and sew.

Sew your headband together. For me this meant, sewing the band into a loop and then sewing a top stitch all the way around the open end to close it shut.

Rose Headband

I love this, so easy- you just need a headband, scrap material, felt and a hot glue gun. Oh and a needle and thread. Either way- super easy and a great project to do while watching TV.

Start by making lots of little rosettes. I'll link a video below on how to make them.

Once you've made your little roses cut out a piece of felt in whatever shape you like.

Sew your flowers on in random order to your felt. I recommend sewing Vs. hot gluing because you get a much neater look.

Decide where you want to have your flowers at on your headband and mark it.

Carefully place the glue on your headband and set your piece on top. Press down hard to make sure it sticks really well and you are done!

I recommend using the Flat Rose. That's what I used.

Knitted Headband

So the first project from our Fall Knitted wear is a really simple project that you will be able to do with some of the scraps from some of our projects. I over-worked myself yesterday and made a ton of projects and tutorials so I have a few ready-made.

So you are going to be using a long sweater piece for this. Trust me you'll have one of these left over from scraps if you do some of the other projects I'll upload later.

Cut your piece so it fits your head. Don't worry about seam allowance because it's a knit it should stretch. Fold your piece in half and sew.

Set your machine on a zig-zag stitch and on a very small stitch length (mine was on 1 which was the smallest I could go). Sew along the raw edge of your headband, stretching your material as you go so that it ruffles.

Next take your remaining material and cut 2-3 circles from it in different sizes.

Use the same technique as before to get the ruffled edges.

Stack your pieces on top of each other add a botton to the center for a flower. Sew on to your headband and you are done!

DiY Dying Nylons and Headband

I saw this headband a few months ago and just fell over how pretty it was. So I decided to make it. Here is how.

First I decided to use an old pair of nylons because they stretch and I can make them any color I want. Start by cutting your nylons below the *ahem*.

Right once you've done that you're going to want to dye your nylons. This is super easy and if you don't want to make the headband, you could dye your old nylons fun colors for fall :D

So start by pouring 4 cups of water and 1/4 cup of vinegar in a pan and let your nylons soak in that pan for about a half an hour. That's important.

After your nylons have soaked for a half an hour, add your food coloring of choice. I went with blue and I probably used way more than I needed to, a few drops should do the trick. Then turn your stove on and let it work itself up to a boil. As a side note, this can be kind of stinky.

Let your Nylons boil in the water for about 10 minuets. Remove your nylons from the pan and pour cold water over them until the water runs clear. After that place your nylons back in the pan and let them boil for another 2-3 minutes.

Remove your nylons and drain your water. Rinse the nylons again with cold water making sure to remove any excess dye. Then hang your nylons to dry over night, or day whichever.

To make your headband start by crossing your two pieces in an X.

Turn one side of your legs under the other leg so that you have two interlocking loops.

You can sew your ends together, but I was lazy and just decided to tie them together.

And you have your headband.
