My Heart's a Tart Facinator (tutorial)

Start by making your flowers- I made some circle roses out of different fabrics. To see how I made them check out my Be My Valentine Bustier tutorial.

Cut two equally-sized heart shapes out of your felt.

Cut a much larger heart shape out of your tulle.

Pick out the headband you want to use- I am using an elastic one because it works well for this project.

Plug in your glue gun and begin to heat it up.

Cut your organza into a strip of your desired length. Burn the edges and make a bow out of it.

Take one of your felt hearts and glue the tip of your tulle to the tip of your felt so that they join together at their points. Then place your bow on top.

Glue down your flowers where you want them placed on your facinator.

Turn your heart over and place glue all over the back side.

Place your headband carefully down on your hot glue.

Cover with your second heart and let dry. Once dry clean up any edges on your felt and you are done!

DIY Slit Back Dress (With small tutorial)

I started out with this funeral looking wool black dress from the 1980s.

I had to begin by altering the dress to better fit me. It sat a little too low in the sleeves so I removed them and raised them up slightly.

Then I removed the zipper from the back of the dress. The dress was fully lined which made things really easy for me. All I had to do was pin the lining back to the dress and sew.

I then added a hook and eye at the top of the dress to fasten the dress together.

I then re-attached the sleeves and determined how short I wanted them. I wanted quarter length sleeves.

I cut and hemmed the sleeves to my desired length.

Lastly I shortened the skirt and re-hemmed both the lining and the dress.

Cakes Cakes and More Cakes!

I thought I would take a break from my usually scheduled blog posts to share some of my sister's awesome cakes that she makes. She became interested in cake making a couple years ago and took a class at the community college on cake decorating. Over the past couple years she's made some awesome cakes for the family and I thought I'd show you some of them.

She made this cake for my boyfriend's birthday last year. I wish I could show you a picture of the inside but it's on my phone and doesn't want to leave--- anyway it had a checkerboard inside.

Project Runway Challenge

A new season of Project Runway starts today and I am challenging myself and other DiYers out there to take on the challenge! I intend to make a garment each week for each of the Project Runway challenges. This should be fun!

And just for the hell of it, here are some of my favorite past Project Runway pieces and designers.

I love this top that was made out of a mop!

My boyfriend really liked this peacock inspired dress by Sweet Pea
